Natalie took Graham and Carole out for a 4 hour session
after catfish, Natalie thought she would try a new swim not fished before,
nothing happened for about about 90 minutes when Natalie noticed
catfish moving out from under a tree to chase baitfish and then back
under the tree again, 2 rods were re-postioned to intercept these fish,
within 2 minutes both rods screamed off, Graham hooked a fish which
went downstream and Natalie hooked the other which went upstream,
the run was powerful and when Natalie offered the rod to Carole
she declined the offer, after the fish had taken 200 yards of line Natalie
thought she was going to be spooled, it was not possible to up anchor
as the 2 fish had gone in opposite directions, Natalie then decided to be
brave and she engaged the baitrunner the fish slowed and then
changed direction which enabled Natalie to gain some line
the fish then used it´s shear size and weight against
the current making several more powerful runs down stream,
before slowly coming to the boat, whilst this was happening Graham
was holding his fish in the water unsure how they were going to land
both fish, for the first time Graham gloved and landed his own fish,
Natalie then passed her rod to Graham whilst she gloved her fish,
but for the first time in 4 years guiding on the river she could not pull
this fish over the side of the boat, the rod was then passed to Carole
then Graham helped Natalie get this fish onto the boat.
Graham´s fish was weighed first at 73lbs it was quickly returned
to the water then Natalie´s fish was weighed 3 times at 182lbs,
within 30 minutes of this double hook up Graham caught a 118lb
catfish making for a very good 4 hour session.
