Newsletter dec 2009 Well what a year it's a shame it had to end we finished the year with a run of 18 days fishing with catfish caught every day with 13 over the magical 100lbs we had the feeling the cats were just starting to feed in earnest when our last client went home, the final count for the year was 371 catfish of which 11 were over 130lbs 27 over 120lbs and 42 over 100lbs and of course we have plenty of stories about the ones that got away. The weed is getting more of a problem each year this has been put down to the holes in the ozone layer, the cleaning up of the river by stopping effluent entering at every village or town along it's course, and one of the main causes of this is the zebra mussel which have taken hold in many areas of the ebro, to combat this many of our clients have decided to book their holidays at the beginning of the year as the weed problem doesn't really start until late july. The studio flat next door to us is proving very popular as you can use our carp tackle free of charge if you have booked catfishing trips with us this enables you to fish anywhere along the bank where we are situated before or after you arranged catfishing fishing times so you don't have to just sit around when you really want to fish. Finca Margarita Ian & Steph's home 10 minutes from us, is getting better and better all the time it now has a small pool a lovely garden area with bed chairs and their are plans for another bedroom before next summer. We also have a new bed and breakfast property above Tivenys and also accommodation at Tivenys which is close to bar rosi who do breakfast from 7am and evening meals up to 10.30pm if you book this time the day before, which means you can fish with us to 10pm and still get there in time. Licence's have gone up we now charge 17 euros per licence and we no longer do airport pick up after all the problems that other guides have had with the police, it also makes our car insurance invalid as you have to have a taxi licence the cost of which would make this uneconomical. We have new catfishing equipment for next year new rods and reels which we are sure you will understand is needed as our equipment catches more catfish than anyone else's on the lower ebro ( oops their we go again blowing our own trumpet) Tight lines |
